Using An Apple Cider Vinegar Bacterial Vaginosis Treatment
Apple cider vinegar has been around for a long time. For many years now, it has been used for everything from a cleaning product to a medicinal cure to a cooking ingredient. That may be why it has stood the test of time, as far as being a great treatment for bacterial vaginosis. In order to really understand how using an apple cider vinegar bacterial vaginosis treatment can work for you, however, you need to understand a bit about how BV actually works.
Bacteria Levels And pH Balance:
The first thing that you need to know about bacterial vaginosis is that the vagina always contains bacteria. Most of those bacteria, such as lactobacillus, are actually good bacteria. They keep your vagina healthy and help to prevent infections like BV. Healthy bacteria thrive in a slightly acidic environment.
One of the things that can cause an outbreak of BV is if the pH levels in your vagina become less acidic than they should be. That's because bad bacteria tend to thrive in environments that are more alkaline in nature (less acidic).
Things That Cause BV:
It is possible that you may have done something to create your BV outbreak. For example, bad bacteria thrive on sugar. So, if you're eating too many sugary and processed snack foods, that may be why you developed a problem. It's also possible that you introduced bad bacteria to your body through unprotected sex, intrauterine devices, non-sterilized sex toys or some other means.
You May Not Have Done Anything Wrong:
However, before you get upset about having BV, you need to understand that you may not have done anything wrong. Each woman's vaginal pH levels is different. So, some women are more prone to infections because their natural pH levels aren't acidic enough. In fact, some women have problems because their acidity is too high also.
Therefore, it may not have been anything that you did that caused your BV or something you did that would ordinarily be fine, such as putting in a tampon, may have caused bacterial growth just because you are more susceptible to zthat then most women are.
Why You Should Use Apple Cider Vinegar:
Apple cider vinegar is all natural, for one thing. Many people choose to use an apple cider
vinegar bacterial vaginosis treatment simply because it's better than using harmful man-made antibiotics.
Also, apple cider vinegar is unique because it is slightly acidic, but not acidic enough to be harmful to your body.
Many acids are far too powerful to be any good, but not apple cider vinegar.
It can be used quite safely, as long as you dilute it a bit.
Three Ways To Use Apple Cider Vinegar:
Using apple cider vinegar to prevent or cure BV is easy. You have three different options. You can take a bath and put some apple cider vinegar in the bath water, you can use an apple cider vinegar douche or you can simply drink a little apple cider vinegar mixed with water.
For douching, you can use a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in two cups of water. Just put it in a douching bag and you're ready to go. You should do that once each day until the BV clears up. That's likely to take about one to two weeks. Just remember that too much douching can flush out the good bacteria as well as the bad. So, don't think that extra douching will work extra fast because it won't.
If you're going to take a bath using apple cider vinegar, you need to also be careful not to over do the apple cider vinegar amount. You only want to raise your vaginal acidity a little bit. Too much apple cider vinegar will create more problems than it fixes.
In fact, it may cause painful itching and burning sensations as you sit in the tub.
First, make sure that your bathtub is quite clean.
Then, run a warm, shallow bath.
You'll need a different amount of apple cider vinegar based on the amount of water you use, but the general recommendation tends to be about 100ml to 250ml, which translates to about half to a whole cup.
Once you have the bath ready, you'll need to soak in it for just 20 minutes or so. However, you may need to repeat that process once a day for several days until the BV clears up.
Drinking apple cider vinegar for BV relief is really not very effective. It's much better to bath in it or douche with it. However, drinking apple cider vinegar on a regular basis can be a very effective maintenance method for preventing bacterial vaginosis in the first place.
All you need to do is drink about a teaspoon of it in a large glass of water no more than once or twice per day. It's also important that it is the unfiltered version of apple cider vinegar, which may look “muddy”, but it's supposed to look that way.
Helping Good Flora To Grow:
Once you have fixed your pH levels, you'll also need to help good flora (healthy bacteria) to grow in your vagina. Otherwise, you're likely to have the same problems with bacterial vaginosis over and over again. So, apple cider vinegar is not a stand alone treatment method.
One way that you can restore healthy bacteria to your vaginal region is with yogurt. Yogurt contains live cultures of healthy bacteria (probiotics). You can simply eat more yogurt or you can actually use an applicator to sort of paint some yogurt inside your vagina directly. That may help to cure your BV.
