Vaginal Douche

A vaginal douche is one of the easiest ways to clean yourself out, especially if you want to get rid of bacterial vaginosis in your own home using natural remedies. There are several types of douches, ranging from plain water ones to ones with things like hydrogen peroxide or apple cider vinegar mixed in with the water in order to deliver relief from things like bacterial vaginosis. Douching is easy to do in your own and it is advisable to do it every so often, especially if you have bacterial problems.

What is Douching?

Vaginal Douche

A douche is a simple piece of equipment; a small pipe is attached to a small bag which holds water and other fluids. The douche injects water into the vaginal area (or any cavity really) and rinses it out. It's much more precise and sanitary than simply having a bath, although it is advisable to do it over a towel so that you don't make a mess on the floor.

Learning how to douche is easily done either online or just by using the instructions your douche came with. In essence though, all you have to do is fill the bag with distilled water and whatever else you want to use such as apple cider vinegar, lie down, insert the nozzle into your vagina and rinse yourself out. You'll probably want to do it a couple of times and in the case of getting rid of bacterial vaginosis, a couple times a day for up to three to five days to see results.

Douching for Bacterial Vaginosis

Douching is one of the most common ways to relieve the symptoms and the cause of bacterial vaginosis, but only if you are smart about it. There are two kinds of vaginal douches for getting rid of bacterial vaginosis: apple cider vinegar douche or a hydrogen peroxide douche. Both of these work by restoring the proper pH balance which is the natural acidity of your vagina and it should lie between 3.8 and 4.5.

It also destroys the bad bacteria by strengthening the good bacteria. What is important to remember with both of these kinds of douche is to have only small amounts of apple cider vinegar or hydrogen peroxide in distilled water or else you'll do more damage than good. You should only douche for three to five days; anymore than that and you won't be doing anything more anyway.

I would not douche too much unless you have a medical reason to. Too much douching can cause yeast infections because you are disturbing the natural flora and bacteria in a healthy vagina. You should never douche after sex either; urinate instead.

Douching after sex will put a lot of bacteria on your douche which will then be deposited back into your vagina and can cause infections. Douching should only be done to stave off things like bacterial vaginosis or if you are feeling particularly dirty; otherwise you could well make things worse.

If you are suffering from bacterial vaginosis, then a vaginal douche is a good way to take care of the problem in your own home. The uses of apple cider vinegar or hydrogen peroxide have both been shown to cure bacterial vaginosis and relieve the immediate symptoms wonderfully. Make sure to use your douche properly and you'll feel better within a few days.
